Chandlee and Sons Construction Company undertook another commercial project for developers, Sembler, Inc., in their Deerfield Place shopping center on Highway 9 in Alpharetta, Georgia. We signed contracts for two build-out projects with an Atlanta celebrity on June 3, 2014. One contract for this well-funded salon, ALTER EGO SALON, and a second for her Ultimate Beauty Supply store. The client hired us on the spot without considering other Atlanta general contractors.
The first phase of the project was completed in the fall of 2014. Our crews demolished all of the materials left behind by the previous tenant. We then performed the required work to prepare the space for the custom design.
Chandlee and Sons was also selected by the client for the conceptual design utilizing the talents of our architectural-engineering-design team. We created a beautiful, state-of-the-art salon that will offer the very best in salon services, VIP rooms, and the most exquisite environment. The conceptual drawings are shown below.
We signed a second contract in October 2014 for the second phase of this over-the-top salon project. In the initial design the interior finishes included gold leaf on the ceiling and the trim, solid gold toilets and sinks, crystal chandeliers with marble and mosaics to be used on the walls. Imported gold cabinetry and several flush-mounted flat-screen television sets will be installed throughout the space.
Seth Chandlee, CEO of Chandlee Holdings and Founding Partner of Chandlee and Sons Construction, commented on the project during his inspection on January 8, 2015, “The salon is slowing taking shape. We work a few days and then wait a month for the one-of-a-kind materials to arrive from overseas. The photos below include pictures of the shampoo bowls that offer clients a reclining massage while playing music in their ears from a built-in iPod with Bluetooth. If the phone rings while in the chair, the client can answer it using their voice. If the client prefers quiet they can choose the sound of waterfalls along with scents, colored lighting and even fog!”
The flooring is laid with high-gloss Italian porcelain wall tiles in a herringbone pattern. All doors are frameless and made by hand of glass with hidden hinges and gold hardware. The ceiling is gold and the laundry room is finished in Italian marble. A unique waterfall machine is mounted on the wall that expels scents.
Also shown in the photos and renderings is the cash/wrap stand. It is cad designed and cut from specific materials. Form wraps the entire piece with architectural trim added. Frameless glass displays are installed on all sides and the top is sparkle quartz. After construction was completed, it was painted with high gloss paint. The design is from a sketch we provided the client for her approval.
On March 5, Seth met with the owner to expedite the completion of this project. The client paid the rent on this space two years ahead so she could take her time with the design and finish. She also requested that our firm take on the role of designer for the project.
“The cabinetry is currently being installed in the employee kitchen and the remaining decorative items are being priced and purchased for shipment as soon as possible. Our crew is also installing wallpaper, hanging crystal space dividers, three dimensional wall panels, curtains and bathroom doors,” Seth commented on June 18. A month later the cabinetry had been ordered for the laundry room and shampoo space. The wallpaper and the recycled three dimensional wall panels were being adhered to the walls and the seamswere being filled. Once the panels are secure they will be painted.
Seth had this to say during another inspection, “The salon is gorgeous! The walls have a three dimensional surface, there is new millwork, and Mercedes Benz faucets and accessories. Yes, apparently they do exist.”
At this point in the finish the client decided she did not want the real gold leaf in the kitchen – but a gloss white finish instead. Gill Thomas was brought in to assist in the fabrication of new millwork. On July 22, the exterior signage was delivered by Katie Hastings Matthews and her partner and husband, Matt.
A month later our crew was working on the finishing touches and the final inspections were schedule for the following week, August 24. This week the hi-lo drinking fountain was removed, sanded, painted gold and reinstalled; the 3-D wallpaper was hung; the entire space was repainted, the cabinets were finished and the hardware was installed. The work stations received their mounts and the crystal ‘curtain’ dividers were hung. The furniture was placed including the elegant tufted leather sofas and the horse lamp. Then the entire salon received a deep cleaning.
“Every aspect of Alter Ego is custom designed. This project involved more hardwork, paperwork, communications, and orders than anyone will ever know,” commented Seth on September 9. “The salon passed the final fire inspection today and the final building re-check is scheduled for tomorrow.” The photos taken this day reveal the absolute beauty and elegance of this exquisite salon. Anitra Mecadon, DIY and HGTV host, had this to say when she visited the salon, “It looks fantastic. You guys do crazy good work. The flooring is killer!”
Alter Ego Salon is in Suite 425 at 13085 Highway 9 North in Milton, Georgia – it opened in the late summer of 2015. Their website is https://www.alteregosalons.com
