Upon entering this alluring yoga studio you will immediately notice the use of reclaimed materials throughout the entire space. Only zero VOC paint, stains and sealers where used in the finish. The combination of natural materials and flowing lines make for a refreshing and uplifting atmosphere.
This 4,000 square foot design-build project by Chandlee and Sons Construction Company began with a ribbon cutting ceremony by the owners, Bryce and Terra Giemza, in front of the building in Midtown Atlanta. Stage one began with the demolition of all interior finishes and fixtures, and the removal of all furnishings from the former Washington Mutual Bank – this was completed at the end of September, 2013.
The utilities were relocated to accommodate the new design that incorporates a hi-tech heating and cooling system called Hot Yoga. This system quickly heats the room to a comfortable temperature for exercise and immediately cools the space down when the session is over. It maintains precise temperatures and levels of humidity while circulating clean oxygenated air and reducing carbon emissions, stale air and odor. The walls of this room required three different types of insulation and moisture barriers. The flooring in the 2,500 square foot (Hot Yoga) SUN room is rubber, whereas the flooring in the 1,500 square foot MOON room is eco-friendly bamboo.
The design features curved walls which create hallways that invite you around each turn. All of the common areas have floors of polished concrete. The walls are surfaced with warm tones of reclaimed wood. A millwork craftsman fashioned custom soffits that also curve – where the two pieces of the soffit meet they entwine within each other. He also built benches and other custom features found throughout the space.
The studio also contains changing rooms with multiple showers and bathrooms. The bathrooms are equipped with a sanitary, no-touch, antimicrobial, filtered water, hydration system and well-lit vanities. All of these spaces have non-slip, quartz concrete floors. There is also a retail area for the purchase of active-wear and accessories.
The main entrance is the street level first floor which has a curved concrete stairway leading to the upper floor where the yoga studios are located. This upper floor exits to a covered, lighted parking deck.
Co-owner Bryce Giemza had this to say: Chandlee & Sons Construction built our first Hot Yoga studio in Midtown, Atlanta in the fall of 2013. A Hot Yoga studio might sound easy, not this one. My expectations were high. We wanted a showcase yet we had a limited budget and were under a very tight timeline to finish. SO glad I choose to work with Jim and Seth! They are no nonsense and move fast with the customer’s intention front of mind at all times. They are extremely responsive regardless of circumstance. They take responsibility and work around the clock to get the job done. Moreover, you can trust them. Their level of integrity is second to none. They were also always looking out for my budget and trying to trim costs without sacrificing quality. They have your back and it was truly a pleasure working with them. Really good guys . . . that know how to work hard and have fun. Can’t wait for them to build the next studio!
