PHASE ONE: In early November of 2013 the owner closed on a 6-unit strip center that would soon be his new ACE HARDWARE store on Highway 140, Arnold Mill Road, in Alpharetta, Georgia. He also secured Chandlee and Sons Construction Company out of Alpharetta as the contractor on this multi-stage project.
The first stage of this demolition and commercial design-build project was to remove every dividing wall between the six existing spaces and all of the old mechanicals. Once the permit was granted the crew from Chandlee and Sons began demolition on November 19. At the same time the design plans were being drawn up by the architects and engineers and by December 5, the in-house architectural, MEP’s and civil engineering was complete. In the design the 6 units were opened up into one 9,000 square foot space, new mechanicals (electrical, plumbing and HVAC) were installed, new framing and sheetrock were constructed, the concrete floor were refinished and the trim on the exterior of the brick structure received new paint and signage. The design also included the creation of a large outdoor garden center on the side of the building.
Because this project required that it be structured in separate stages there were times the crews were waiting on permitting. Within several days of the plans being ready from the architects and engineers the Chandlee and Sons crew began the construction phase of the project – it was mid-December.
This very large space required a large number of storage and display shelving units. By early February 2014 the installation of these units had begun and the stocking of the inventory soon followed. The new outdoor garden center was finished by the second week of March in plenty of time for folks to buy all of the supplies needed for spring planting.
PHASE TWO: Soon after opening, the owner, Herb Valasquez, asked our crews to return to expand the exterior garden center and to create an addition for semi-trailer parking. This was completed in June. Herb had this to say about us and our team: “We had a big challenge which was to convert five retail units into one large retail space for our Ace Hardware Crabapple business and to stay within budget and timeframe. Chandlee and Sons was selected because of their expertise in working on fast-paced, high-quality projects. They did not disappoint as the build-out was completed successfully and addressed all our design needs. Seth Chandlee and Jim Chandlee were very responsive to our needs and were a pleasure to work with. We also used Chandlee and Sons for Phase 2 of the project which included an exterior garden center and semi-trailer parking. Most important for us is that our customers and our staff have been delighted with the results of the space and the retail experience.”
Herb’s new Ace Hardware is located at 12450 Arnold Mill Road (Highway 140) in suite B-1 in Alpharetta, Georgia.
