In November 2014, Chandlee and Sons Construction signed a contract with the executives of Rocket Farms Restaurants LLC, for the design/build of their new 4,500 square foot corporate office in northwest Atlanta. This particular project is a unique one for us as we received the contract over one of the world’s largest general contracting firms. This is a great opportunity for us to show our talents and utilize our experience on a project for the top man at Rocket Farms, Ford Fry, who was recently named “2014 Chef of the Year” by eater.com.
The goal on this project was to take a stand alone building with chopped up spaces and turn it into an efficient, inviting space that would meet the needs of the growing company. We worked with our architects on a design that included opening up three connecting units to form one large flowing office space. From this we created six new offices for a total of eight office spaces of three different sizes; each with a frameless glass wall. In addition, we constructed a large design studio with a storage room, a centrally located meeting room, and a large room for special events. All of the common areas have ceilings that are 20 feet high and the interior of the building is open and bright with skylights placed throughout (see the photos below). There are also three restrooms, a break room and additional storage areas. The mechanical systems and HVAC ducting are exposed with all system being upgraded. The floors are sea grass and all of the doors are solid pine. The wall finishes are a mix of brick placed against drywall with a variety of paint colors and finishes. The pre-existing usable spaces where remodeled to comply with the fresh new design. This $200,000 design includes a curved metal wall with a mezzanine above. Note – this project was scheduled to be completed within five weeks and that included the demolition. Chandlee and Sons finished Rocket Farms on Friday, December 5!
Seth and Jim worked with Rocket Farms’ Chief Financial Officer, Daniel VanLoh, on all of the details. Everyone at Chandlee and Sons worked with concentrated dedication to bring this project in as quickly as possible making sure the finished product met and hopefully exceeded the company’s standards.
Our project manager was making sure that all of the loose ends were being brought together on the last day on the project, when Ford Fry spoke to him as he passed through the new office saying, “the project looks great. THANK YOU”! After the project was turned over to Rocket Farms Daniel had this to say, “C&S Construction did an excellent job with the expansion of our corporate office. They were very professional, finished ahead of our schedule and went beyond the original scope of work to make sure the entire space looked great when they were done. We look forward to working with them again on future projects.”
Eater.com called the founder of Rocket Farms, Ford Fry, “a local empire builder”. He has opened several successful and highly publicized restaurants in the Atlanta area and is in the process of opening more. Chef Fry hires people with “a passion” and he enjoys “finding talent in the region and putting them in an environment where they can learn and grow”.
“We at Chandlee and Sons identify with Chef Fry’s spirit of entrepreneurship and excellence; we were happy to have the opportunity to work with Daniel and Rocket Farms on their new corporate office expansion. It was a five week project that came in on time and on budget. The office staff is super excited to now have DOUBLE the square footage”, said partner Seth Chandlee. The new corporate office is located in Suite 1at 664 Antone Street in northwest Atlanta. For more information about Chef Fort Fry and his establishments visit http://www.fordfry.com/.
