Chandlee Construction Company signed a contract with representative, Robert Wittenstein, for another project at the Temple Emanu-El on April 15, 2020. The scope of this third project involved renovating the 7,808 square foot social hall.
The hall can be divided into two sections with a movable wall separating off a smaller space from the much larger more interior space. The larger space has a stage and access to large storage rooms and restrooms. There is also a movable wall separating the social room from the main sanctuary.
Our commercial contracting firm previously installed bullet-proof doors at all entry points of the buildings on the property.
In late April, Chandlee Construction’ Superintendent, Josh Oberley, made repairs to trim, paneling, and baseboards and demolition began in the social hall. Smarthands performed the framing and hanging of the sheetrock. Painter were working on the wall surfaces by April 28 and the rough in for the recessed lighting had begun and was finished by May 1. Note the floor surfaces are ceramic tile, stained wood, and carpeting. The ceilings are either ceiling tiles installed in a grid or painted sheetrock.
On May first, Josh stated the ceiling tiles will go in today and be finished by the twelfth. Once the ceiling tiles are in place the electricians will return to complete the lights in the ceiling and add the chandeliers and other lighting and switches. Door fixtures will be installed as soon as the painters wrap up their work. The wood flooring and carpet will be delivered on the twelfth. On May 15, the crew finished a two-day project for preparing and installing the floors for the dance floor and the stage in the social hall. By Monday May 18, all work was complete except the carpet was delayed in arriving.
Plans for a fourth project – the creation of a 1,283 square foot outdoor chapel on an existing surface – were approved on July 31, 2020. The location of the outdoor chapel is through double doors just outside of the social hall. It consists of a raised deck over a basement located on the east side of the main building with 99 seat capacity.
The synagogue is located at 1580 Spalding Drive in Sandy Springs, Georgia. The website for the Temple is templeemanuelatlanta.org.
