The Nest Cafe
The Nest Cafe is a privately owned commercial build-out project for Chandlee and Sons Construction Company that will raise the bar high for restaurants in Alpharetta, Georgia. It is located in the new Alpharetta Lofts midrise on Canton Street in the heart of downtown within walking distance of the new Alpharetta City Hall.
Seth Chandlee, Managing Partner of Chandlee and Sons Construction and CEO of Chandlee Holdings, made this comment after signing the contract, “The Nest is a prodigy of the high-end WB Interior’s located in the Avalon development, also in Alpharetta. Keep your eye out for the incredible design features of this hot new staple of Alpharetta.”
The scope of the project includes two public restrooms and a separate one for the employees; a large angled dining room filled with windows; ample storage and a large commercial kitchen. The finishes are valued engineered in order to give the client the desire elements at the best possible price.
Ken Rybnikar is the Senior Project Manager on the project. Construction was underway full speed by January 4, 2016. The framing of the project wrapped up on the 13th. Plumbing and electrical work began the following day and four days later the walls had sheetrock up on one side. By the 21st the plumbing rough-in was complete but the following day the electricians could only work until noon – everyone headed for home due to Storm Jonas moving into north Georgia bringing lots of rain and dropping temperatures – ice and snow are in the forecast.
The project passed the wall cover inspection on January 26. By the following day the insulation was installed and the rough-in of the electrical and HVAC were complete – the inspection passed the day after. On the 29th the crew began installing the drywall and painting the ceiling – this continued for a few days. The drywall was primed on February 4 – the next day painting on the ceiling began. Painting continued and the installation of the cabinetry began the 9th along with preparation for a feature wall. Before Valentine’s Day The Nest Café had its new website up and running.
Richard Riggs, owner of Country Woodworks, supplied and delivered the wood for a unique feature wall mid-week to the site – the wood wall was complete by Friday along with the cabinet install. Painting continued mid-month with the electrical and HVAC trim work beginning immediately after. By the last week of the month the kitchen was tiled.
March came in quickly as the crew completed the installation of the ceiling. The owner had his own people install the hood vent on the 3rd. The plumbing trim work was completed. All of the concrete floors were polished on the 8th. A day later the construction on the benches was completed – the electrical trim work continued. The appliances were delivered on the 11th and set in place. The Certificate of Occupancy was presented to the client by month’s end. Seth commented on April 6, “The Nest Café in downtown Alpharetta on Canton Street is opening soon – a truly cool and chic neighborhood hangout. Build-out by Chandlee and Sons and a WB interior design project.”
